They draft, negotiate, and secure commercial contracts and legal documents (shareholder agreements, distribution agreements, service contracts). In case of disputes, they coordinate the actions of lawyers before commercial or civil courts, in arbitration or mediation. Furthermore, they participate in the firm's business development and client relationship management.
The Legal Counsel must master contract law, commercial law, and, depending on the context, international law. They must possess excellent drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis skills. A good command of legal English is often essential. The typical background includes a Master's degree in business law, private law, or contract law, complemented by practical internships in a company or law firm.
At the start of their career, the annual salary for a Contracts Legal Counsel generally ranges between €32,000 and €42,000 gross per year. With a few years of experience, this can increase to between €50,000 and €70,000 gross per year, or even more in very specific sectors or international contexts. Career progression leads to positions such as Legal Manager or Legal Director.
